CrossSearcher - FAQs
What is CrossSearcher?
CrossSearcher is a programme which enables the user to simultaneously search multiple electronic resources via a single entry point. A maximum of ten resources may be searched at one time
Searching in this manner, using a single entry point, is know as metasearching, intergrated searching, federated searching or cross-database searching.
Searching can take place either on or off campus.
What can I do with CrossSearcher?
- Search for electronic resources using a single entry point
- Find titles of electronic journals available to CDU students and staff
- Create a personalised database list
How is this different from searching the database ordinarily?
Although we can search multiple databases available from a single supplier, we can now search across supplier databases.
From the results you can then see which databases have the most information and which have the least.
Can I still refine my searching by limiting or expanding?
Yes
You can limit your search:
- By using the Advanced search option and using the Boolean operators, AND, NOT
- By searching specific fields, for example the Subject Field, Year, Title or Author
You can expand your search:
- By using the Boolean operator OR
- By truncating terms using the question mark as the truncation symbol
