Using EndNote with Microsoft Word

EndNote enables you to insert citations into Microsoft Word. Using the feature Cite While You Write, EndNote formats the in-text citation and builds the bibliography at the time you insert your citation. You can select from over 500 styles in Endnote, including CDU Harvard, APA 5 th, Chicago 15A and Nature.

When you install EndNote software, an EndNote toolbar appears in Word.

Stand-alone bibliographies or reading lists can also be created in Word. EndNote allows you to insert graphics and create links to pdf documents, use predefined manuscript templates and export a travelling library from Microsoft Word into an EndNote library.

Working with large documents

If you are working on a thesis and have your chapters as separate documents, you will need to use the Master documents function in Word. The University of Melbourne has created a guide:
