E-Reserve

Access E-Reserve

E-Reserve (Electronic Reserve) is a service that allows copies of lecture notes and articles to be accessed electronically. The E-Reserve database includes journal articles, book chapters and lecturers notes that have been recommended by a lecturer as part of their course reading requirements. Instead of physically accessing the Short Term Loan Collection in the Library, students can access course materials from any networked computer in the Library or elsewhere including from home. Student account and password is all that is necessary.

Requesting materials for E-Reserve

Requests to place materials on E-Reserve are now submitted via a NEW library E-Reserve Request Form which requires staff authentication. This online form is submitted directly to the library Digitisation Team.

E-Reserve Request Form can be used to place materials on E-Reserve including:

  • book chapters
  • journal articles (including links to subscribed databases or WWW sites)
  • lecture notes (provided the work is CDU copyright authored material)
  • other materials available from World Wide Web sites

If you want to add your name and unit code to existing readings on E-Reserve you can e-mail us digitisation@cdu.edu.au or submit the E-Reserve Request Form.

Time needed for processing

  • Requests should be placed well in advance to allow for unavoidable delays between receiving, processing and uploading into E-Reserve. At busy times of the year it is necessary to allow more time for staff to process your request.
  • In general it will take 3-5 working days to process your request. At busy times it can take up to 10-15 working days.
  • The time needed for requests which require scanning will depend on how quickly we can get the physical item.
  • Once your request is received it will be placed in a priority order.

Submitting a request

Before submitting E-Reserve Request Form you must complete the following steps:

  1. Search E-Reserve to see if the requested item is already in E-Reserve
    • search title of the journal article and the name of the journal to see if it is already in E-Reserve (two or more articles from one issue of a periodical can be accessible at the same time if they are for the same research or course of study, restrictions does not apply to links to subscribed databases)
    • search the book chapter and title of the book to see if requested chapter or other chapter is already in E-Reserve (only one chapter can be accessible online).
  2. Search the CDU Library Catalogue to see if the book is held by CDU Library and supply the item Call Number.
  3. Search the CDU Library Catalogue to see if the journal is held by CDU Library and supply the call number or URL link and the database name if it is an online subscription.
  4. If materials are not held within CDU Library you can supply us with a hard copy and the printout of the submitted E-Reserve Request Form (i.e. personal books, notes, books suppled to you via ILL) or via e-mail if materials are in electronic form (PDF’s, Word documents including files requested via interlibrary loan ). All items require an E-Reserve Request Form to be submitted.

Please Note:

  • Electronic documents taken from web pages and databases should not be sent to E-Reserve. Instead fill in the E-Reserve Request Form with all details including URL and submit to us.
  • Poor quality copies will be returned to the lecturer for replacement. Scanning poor quality copies makes for an illegible E-Reserve item for students.
  • If you require any change to the existing materials in E-Reserve (such as unit code change, lecturer name change, swapping of book chapters, etc.) please e-mail all details to digitisation@cdu.edu.au
