Teaching Staff E-Reserve FAQ's
Who do I contact to arrange to have information available on E-Reserve?
Contact the E-Reserve staff in the Library: Iwona Rohoza
How do I access E-Reserve?
You can access E-Reserve from the link on the Library home page. Only CDU students and staff can access E-Reserve. Authentication (login and password) is required.
How is it organised?
E-Reserve is organised as follows: articles can be selected by Keyword, Title, Author, Unit Code, Lecturer, Year or Date or by Titles a-z, Author, Unit Code, Lecture, Year and Date list.
What about copyright?
The licence that the University holds allows the creation of electronic copies of print materials under the conditions set down by the Copyright Amendment (Digital Agenda) Act 2000 (Cth).
What is permitted under digital copying?
The Copyright Act 1968 limits the amount of material that may be copied and communicated under a statutory licence from any one work.
For making readings available online these limits are:
- For a book, 10% of the total text providing that the copy contains only the whole or part of a single chapter
- For a journal, one article from an issue, unless all the articles copied relate to the same specific subject matter
Amendments to the Copyright Act covering digital copying include a strict limit on the portion of a book you can make available online. If any lecturer digitises a chapter of a book and makes this available online, no other person in the university can make another part of the same work available online in compliance of the Part VB licence until this first part is taken down. This restriction does not apply to articles from journals; they are still restricted on a per course basis.
The Library will not include material in the E-Reserve collection (print or electronic) that it considers breaches the Act.
