Student account
- How do I create my student account?
- Visit Activate my computer account on StudentNet.
Google Scholar
- How do I set up Google Scholar so that it recognises I am a CDU student?

When promped (generally off-campus) sign in using your student logon details.
Edit the Library Links preferences to locate CDU Library.
You will then be recognized as a CDU student and will be able to access the complete article via the Full text @ CDU link of anything we have purchased access rights to via our databases.
Accessing My Documents from online
- Am I able to access the U:Drive from home/outside the university.
- Type the following into the Internet address bar of Internet Explorer or a ftp application:
ftp://studentftp.cdu.edu.au or ftp://[s123456]yourstudentnumber@studentftp.cdu.edu.au.

You will then need to enter your password and the contents of your student account [My Documents] area will be available - How much space do I have on the U:Drive or for Internet access?
- U:Drive: 200 megabytes (Post-graduates 500 megabytes)
Internet access is governed by the fair use provisions of the CDU policies and by-laws. See ITMS for more information - I need to save a lot of data.
- Use a CD (holds up to 700MB) or a USB Drive (rewritable and holds upwards of 64MB). CDs and USBs can be purchased from the University Bookshop, the Post Office or other retailers.
- Using USB:
- To avoid corrupting your files or losing data when saving to a USB, always close any open files and quit any applications that were using those files before removing the drive from the PC.
- Losing your USB drive:
- Always rememeber to save a copy of your files into your [My Documents] at CDU AND at home/work!! If you loose your USB drive you have lost your work
- Wireless Internet Access
- The all modern operating system (OS) can support a range of wireless protocols and your personal laptop / tabletPC/ or Personal Digital Assitant (PDA) may be fitted with the hardware to enable you to connect to the CDU Wireless network. You will need to check the support materials of your equipment to ensure it is working and you know how to access it's controls.

An update is available from Mircosoft to update Service Pack2 versions of the OS. Wireless access to the internet can be done with older versions of the Windows family but you will need to make sure your laptop is as up-to-date as possible with Microsoft and manufacturer specific software, either seek help from a friend who really knows computers or find one of the many businesses that offer technical support.

- To listen to E-Tutes outside CDU
- Windows Media is considered the most user friendly option. Quicktime works inside CDU but not necessarily outside and Real Player is not recommended.
Word processing tips
- How do I change line spacing?
- Go to Format/Paragraph/Indents and Spacing tab.
- How do I find supercript in Word?
- Go to Format/Font.
- Books and online materials on word processing available in the library catalogue.
- Go to Safari tech books on the database page and also check the library catalogue.
- I want to translate from English or to English.
- Language translation. For specific Indonesian translation.
Printing
- Cutting off the right hand margin on webpages.
- This is a common problem with html webpages. Always do a Print Preview to check - you can access this through File. If it looks as though it is going to cut off go to Page Setup through File and change to Landscape.
- Make sure you haven't changed your browser settings.
- Printing from databases.
- Make sure you always use the database print buttons on the webpage and not the browser print buttons.
- Printing from PDF or converting a PDF document.
- Make sure you use the print button on the PDF toolbar on the browser print function.

- Right click on the document icon and Save Target As - select Desktop.
- Printing selected webpages from a website.
This is not possible even if the desired pages have been selected - the way around this is to copy and paste into a Word document and then print. - If your job is not coming through to the printer
- Select PDF creator and print from there
