Overdue fines and other charges
Fines were introduced to ensure fair access to Library materials, especially core reading list items on Short Term Loan.
Ideally, the Library would collect no fines at all because students and staff would cooperate and return items on time out of concern for others. Fines are NOT a FEE; they are a deterrent.
Avoiding fines
- renew items online before they are due
- check your borrower record regularly in case items are recalled
- check student or staff email regularly for library notices or if not CDU staff or student, ensure you are to receive email from the library
Fine system
- Fines do not have to be paid until a total of $50 is reached.
- you may continue borrowing with fines under $50
- Once $50 is reached, borrowing is blocked and a minimum of $10 must be paid to reduce the fines to $49.
Fine cap
There is a cap on fines per item in the Main collection of $50.
The total maximum fines per person at one time is $100.
After 60 days the status of an item goes to Lost and a bill for the item will be sent.
