A good way to start your research is to define your topic by using subject dictionaries and to
find background information in encyclopaedias such as:

To find books on your subject you can: 

search the  Library Catalogue using  the 'topic keyword(s)' or 'subject heading keyword(s)s' option.

How do I find journal articles (Databases)?

The library holds journals in print and electronic formats. The best way to access articles in these
journals is by using the databases listed below. When you find an article you want to read, use the
Library Catalogue
and the E-journals list to see if we hold a print copy or have access to the
electronic copy in full-text. Some databases listed will have direct links to the full-text article. The

Academic Search Premier - EBSCOhost

Provides full text for nearly 4,000 scholarly publications, including full text for more than 3,100 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage is multi-disciplinary.

Australian Building Construction & Engineering Database - BUILD

INFORMIT

produced by the Building Information Resource Centre of CSIRO, is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts material on worldwide information in the building, construction and engineering field including fire technology.

Building Code of Australia Online - Click here for the Password

Developed, published and maintained by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB).

Oxford Reference Online - Oxford University Press

contains 100 language and subject dictionaries and reference works.

Standards Australia

Standards Australia Online provides full text access to the complete collection of Australian, Joint Australian/New Zealand standards and most Standards Australia handbooks.
