Information Literacy at CDU

Information literacy (the ability to locate and use information effectively) is an essential element of university life. It is recognised nationally by universities as being an essential graduate attribute.

The Researching Skills interactive tutorial is designed to give you skills to find materials (books, journal articles, websites, etc) effectively and efficiently using the library’s resources and the Internet. You will not only learn how to develop search strategies but also to evaluate the information you find and it is based on the Information Literacy guidelines produced by the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL).

Contact the Information Literacy Coordinator on 08 8946 6193 or email infolit@cdu.edu.au.nospam (remove the no spam from the address).

"As we step into the new century, rapidly changing technologies are dramatically reshaping how we live our lives. This is especially true in the classroom and library where technology has transformed the opportunities for learning. Yet a computer and Internet connection alone are not enough. The resulting explosion in new, often unfiltered information requires information literacy skills - skills to define an information need, access information from multiple sources, evaluate information's accuracy and credibility, and use information effectively. People without the computer skills to access information and the critical thinking skills to evaluate it once retrieved will surely be left behind."

Referencing

Referencing is a standardised method of acknowledging the sources of information and ideas you have used in an assignment. At the end of your essay, you need to include a list of references or bibliography of materials used in writing the assignment. The most important aspects of using any style are consistency and accuracy. For further information on referencing styles and plagiarism at CDU please refer to Referencing at CDU.
