Tree climbing champ to kick off workshop

The scaling of a 17 metre gum tree by Tasmanian Tree Climbing Champion, Scott Sharpe, opens a one-day workshop on tree management being hosted by Charles Darwin University’s Alice Springs Campus tomorrow.

Following on from a very successful and popular workshop last year, Charles Darwin University and Melbourne University have combined forces to present a series of practical demonstrations and discussions on arboriculture.

International speaker and Principal and Head of School, Burnley College at Melbourne University, Dr Gregory Moore, present on how to manage trees after a fire, tree biology and responses, old trees and managing roots and cities and people.

World-renowned tree expert Phil Kenyon discusses the issues of establishing and maintaining young trees before an informative afternoon ‘walk and talk’ session on formative pruning of young trees, the consequences of prior pruning and hazards and other general tree issues.

Coordinator of Primary Industries and Science at the University’s Alice Springs Campus, Wayne Tregea, said that the University is committed to bringing respected speakers and their professional insights to Alice Springs.

“This is an ideal opportunity for l eading industry representatives, government agencies, community council members and the general public to be part of the forefront of industry training. ”
