Twelve Charles Darwin University graduates were admitted as legal practitioners of the Court during a special Admission ceremony held by the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory on Friday 17 December.

Eleven had completed the University's Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice which is taught in cooperation with the Australian National University.

"These were the first group to complete the Graduate Diploma course since it commenced in March 2004," explained Ms Meredith Day, Course Coordinator - Law, Charles Darwin University.

The former Charles Darwin University students admitted as legal practitioners are Fleur Bagshaw, Karen Friscich, Alana Laporte, Michaela Milner, Chris McGorey, Paul Rojas, Vaughan Casey, Richard Bryson, Janine Carroll, Tanya Vogt, Peter Pohlner and John Whitington.

"Justice Dean Mildren gave the customary address during which he reminded the new practitioners of their duties to the Court, their clients, fellow practitioners and themselves," Ms Day said.

"Justice Mildren also noted with satisfaction that the majority of the applicants for admission were graduates of Charles Darwin University."

Justice Mildren and Justice Trevor Riley, who was also sitting as part of the Court on Friday, have made significant contributions to the law as teachers and researchers.

Both Judges continue to be actively involved in the law program at Charles Darwin University.

"All former students are congratulated on their admissions and we wish them well for their future careers in the law," Ms Day said.
