More than $12,000 worth of Charles Darwin University managed scholarships are now open for applications from students wanting to study Vocational Education and Training courses at the University in 2005.
"In 2005 the University is offering a range of scholarships open to VET students which are tailored to different locations around the Territory as well as different study areas," Charles Darwin University Scholarships Coordinator, Kirsty Mawer, said.
"A highlight is the new $3,000 Barbara Singer Environmental Studies Scholarship."
Established through the Northern Territory Office of Environment and Heritage, the Scholarship honours Ms Singer's contributions to environmental protection in the Territory.
"The Barbara Singer scholarship is open to students undertaking VET studies or undergraduate tertiary studies who demonstrate ability and initiative in the area of environmental protection."
Mrs Mawer indicated that other scholarships available to VET students include:
- The environmentally focused George Brown Memorial Scholarship which carries $2,500 together with vocational employment with Darwin City Council.
- The $2,500 EcOz Scholarship is open to biology or environmental science students.
- The $1,500 Bob Jenner Scholarship is open to students studying IT.
- Palmerston residents can apply for the $1,000 Palmerston City Council Scholarship.
- In the Centre, students can apply for the $1,000 Alice Springs Town Council Scholarship.
- Students with ties to the Nhulunbuy or Katherine regions can apply for the $1,000 Top End Freemason's Scholarship
