The biggest concert
of this year’s Charles Darwin University’s
2004 Concert Series will feature the works of Bach, Telemann and
Mozart from 8pm this Friday .
Masters of the 18 th Century will feature some of the
all time composing greats of the period,” said Concert Series
Coordinator Rebecca Harris.
“Opening with Bach’s ever popular and beautiful Violin
Concerto in E Major, this will be followed by Telemann’s Suite
in A minor for Flute and Strings and culminate with Mozart’s
mighty Vesperae Solemnes de Confessore for vocal soloists,
choir, organ and orchestra.
“The concert is particularly noteworthy for the wide range
of people who will be performing, which underlines Charles Darwin
University’s music department as one of the Top End’s
most vibrant musical organisations.”
Masters of the 18 th Century will showcase
the Charles Darwin Combined Choirs, Chamber Orchestra, Honours
soloists and University staff together with leading local music
identities Bill Griffiths, Jennifer Martin and Vivienne and Andrew
Tooms.
Talented Charles Darwin Honours students Violinist Emily Delves
and Flautist Catherine Kinsella will both make their concerto debuts
with the Charles Darwin Chamber Orchestra.
“Uniquely, a collaborative conducting effort will also
be the order for the evening with Martin Jarvis conducting the
two Concertos and Andrew Snell the Mozart,” Ms Harris said.
Masters of the 18 th Century will be held in the Charles
Darwin University Theatre from 8pm Friday 4 June.
Tickets will be available at the door for $15 Adults, $10 concession,
$5 children and a discount price of $7 for members of the University
of the Third Age.
