The Poetry of Functionality is the title of the upcoming
exhibition by renowned photographer, Beatrix Reinhardt, at the
Charles Darwin University Gallery.
Ms Reinhardt bases herself in Germany and the United States,
with her work being a result of her wide travels which includes
Australia.
Ms Reinhardt’s images show the way individuals express
themselves through how they organise , use and decorate their spaces
and how this can be seen as an expression of cultural values, ideals,
beliefs, individual taste and sensibilities.
“The politics of space has been the centre of interest
in my work”, Ms Reinhardt stated.
“The absence of humans in these pieces allows an unencumbered
view of a social landscape, revealing information about the people
who interact in these spaces.
“Architecture and decoration can reflect temporary liberation
from everydayness, which is discussed in my photographic works.
“I do not intend to produce sociological studies. I see
these photographs more as intimate portraits of the individuals
who occupy/occupied these spaces.”
