Technology expert outlines new frontier

An international expert on new generation mobile technologies will give a free seminar at Charles Darwin University tomorrow.

Mr Malcolm Seymour, from Computer Sciences Corporation, has pioneered the application of a number of new wireless technologies. His work includes the first GSM powered mobile ATM for the World Rugby Cup in 1995, the first Lotus Notes and cc:Mail replication using the cellular network and access to the Internet using Apple Macintosh and Newton hand-held computers.

Mr Seymour has appeared on television in his own series evangelising the use of mobile technologies, and has authored numerous articles on mobile data. His presentation will include discussion on:

  • Wireless LANs – the latest on security, mobility, and roaming.
  • IP Telephony (Voice over IP) – single network for voice, video and data.
  • Extended Office with unified messaging, IP soft-phone and “one number - follow me” service.
  • Planned equipment maintenance solution using mobile/wireless and RFID or Barcode devices.
  • Mobile Workforce Management system including Asset identification and GPS.
  • MCS5100 Multimedia Communications Server – brings multimedia services to an IP network.
  • Global Remote Access Service (GRAS) – dial-up from almost anywhere.
  • Network Application Monitoring Service – managing bandwidth use of applications over the WAN.
  • Mobile Executive – personal information management tools for the executive on the move.
  • Managed Internet and Web Services – fully managed integrated services.
  • Network Monitoring Centre – managing diverse back-end systems.
