Dynamic music duo return to Darwin |
“Cellist Niall Brown from the Australian String Quartet and pianist Isabelle Trüb will perform heavy weights of the Cello repertoire with sonatas by Debussy and Shostakovich as well as favourites for the duo combination by Bartok, Fauré and Stravinsky,” Concert Series Coordinator, Rebecca Harris, said.
The Trüb-Brown Duo have performed in Switzerland, France, Spain, Great Britain, South America as well as in Australia. The Duo has four critically acclaimed albums, which include works by Swiss composers as well as Paul Hindemith, Johannes Brahms and Gabriel Fauré.
“The Duo will also host cello and piano master classes for Charles Darwin University music students while they are in Darwin which is particularly exciting as both Mr Brown’s and Ms Trüb's musical heritage is outstanding,” Ms Harris explained.
Scottish born Mr Brown began the cello at age six and his talent was recognised by the great Yehudi Menuhin who in turn offered him a place at his famous music school in England.
Here, Mr Brown was taught by renowned cellist Maurice Gendron and William Pleeth, who taught the world's greatest female cellist, Jacqueline Du Pre. Mr brown went on to be a prize winner in both solo and chamber music competitions in Great Britain and Holland and has performed as soloist with Camerata Bern and The Scottish Ensemble to name but a few.
Swiss pianist, Ms Trüb commenced her studies with her mother the distinguished concert pianist Edith Fischer. She completed her studies in Indiana thanks to a Goehner Migros Scholarship, where her talent for accompanying had already emerged.
Since then, Ms Trüb has been closely associated as accompanist with the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland, Hindemith Foundation in Switzerland and more recently Youth Music Australia.
A cello master class will be held from 5.00-6.30pm this evening followed by a piano master class from 10.00-11.00am on 11 September. Both will be held in the Charles Darwin Theatre and cost just $5 for the public to observe.
Tickets to The Trüb-Brown Duo Concert will be available at the door for $15 Adults, $10 Concessions, $5 children and $7 for members of the University of the Third Age.
