National recognition for NT historian

A leading NT historian and Charles Darwin University lecturer has been recognised nationally for his significant academic and community contribution to the promotion and study of history and heritage in Australia.

Professor David Carment has been honoured as a Fellow of the Federation of Australian Historical Societies - the peak national body for the historical societies movement in Australia.

“Local and national history is a great passion of mine,” Professor Carment said.

“While it is very pleasing to be recognised personally, the honour acknowledges the professional support and shared interest in history that we have through the local Historical Society of the Northern Territory and at the University.”

Professor Carment, who will be officially recognised in the near future, is only the second Northern Territory person to be acknowledged in such a way by the Federation.

He has been a member of the Historical Society of the Northern Territory for 23 years.

Professor Carment, AM, BA (Hons) UNSW, PhD ANU, FACE has extensive academic experience as an administrator, teacher and researcher and a long record of active participation in community and professional activities.
