Activities and Events
IHD has an Academic Liaison and Cultural Coordinator (ALCC) to coordinate a range of events and activities which cater to the social, sporting and study needs of residents. At the beginning of semester an orientation program is held to introduce members of the community to each other and to life at IHD. We strongly recommend that all residents attend.
During the year, a monthly calendar of events is promoted through posters, Facebook and the IHD fortnightly newsletter - iWitness. There is also an events folder in the front office of IHD where residents can access information about forthcoming activities and events and sign up to participate in these. We also welcome suggestions for new activities or events, if you have any ideas that you would like to put forward, please contact the ALCC.

Monday 13th February |
3pm Campus Tour
Meet outside the IHD office at 3pm where your Resident Leader will greet you and take you on a tour of IHD and
Charles Darwin University Casuarina Campus. Get to know all the essentials before class begins!
4pm Capture the Flag
Classic game played in any weather conditions, use your wit to out play and out last the opposition as you attempt
to capture their flag. Meet in the central lawns at 4pm to start playing!
Tuesday 14th February |
1pm Lunchtime Sports
Social soccer game held in the central lawns of IHD. Everyone is welcome! Play for 1 hour, make sure you bring your
water bottle!
3pm Campus Tour
Meet outside the IHD office at 3pm where your Resident Leader will greet you and take you on a tour of IHD and
Charles Darwin University Casuarina Campus. Get to know all the essentials before class begins!
8pm Coffee and Cake – Valentines Day
EVERY fortnight for the entire semester we have coffee and cake on a Tuesday night. Come down and socialise
with your friends, meet new people, and take a break. All you need to bring is a MUG. Lucky door Prize to be won!
Wednesday 15th February |
12pm Leanyer Water Park Shuttle Bus
When the weather is super hot, there is no better place to go than the local water park – and since Darwin is so hot
all the time, Leanyer Water Park is FREE. IHD will be running the shuttle bus from 12pm – 3pm to get you there and
back. Meet outside the IHD office.
1pm Lunchtime Sports
Social game of Gridiron(NFL) held in the central lawns of IHD. Everyone is welcome! Play for 1 hour, make sure you
bring your water bottle!
3pm Campus Tour
Meet outside the IHD office at 3pm where your Resident Leader will greet you and take you on a tour of IHD and
Charles Darwin University Casuarina Campus. Get to know all the essentials before class begins!
6pm Texas Hold’em Poker
One of the most popular games in the world, head down to the Red Room to experience it yourself! Cool Prizes to be
won and the opportunity to meet new people during a game of cards. With help from the Red Frogs! No Entry Fee!
Thursday 16th February |
10am and 12pm Darwin Exposed REGISTER HERE
We have planned a free trip around Darwin for you to learn everything you need to know... and some things you
don’t ;) There will also be a quiz, you could win some really cool prizes just by being on the bus! Woohoo!!

3pm Campus Tour

6pm Games, Movies & Ice Cream
Red Frogs and IHD are putting on a games, movies, and ice cream night for everyone at IHD. Head down to the
Red Room at 6pm for a chilled out evening of fun.
Friday 17th February |
10am iGrow Professional Development Study Room
Make sure that you ALL attend this one! If you will be looking for work in the next 12 months, looking for a
placement, volunteering or want to improve your interview technique, you must get to the Study Room in building 12
for this session. Those who do attend go in the running for a great prize!
1pm Lunchtime Sports
Social game of Basketball at RED 2, Basketball Court. Meet in the Central Lawns and we will all walk down together.
Everyone is welcome! Play for 1 hour, make sure you bring your water bottle!
3pm Campus Tour

5pm Welcome Aussie BBQ
Head down to Sitzler court for a relaxing Aussie BBQ. Food and Drinks provided. Vegetarian options are also
available.
5:30pm Casuarina Square Shuttle Bus
Every Friday for the semester we run a shuttle bus from IHD to Casuarina Square so that you can go and do your
groceries, grab a bite to eat, go to the movies or buy a new outfit. It is late night shopping night and the shuttle bus
will run from outside the IHD office to Casuarina every 10-15 minutes. The shuttle bus will run from 5pm – 9pm and
leave from out side the IHD office.
Saturday 18th February |
9am Parap Markets Shuttle Bus
Darwin has a great variety of terrific markets around town. The Parap markets are full of arts and crafts plus tonnes
of food. The shuttle bus will run from 9am – 12 pm and leave from out side the IHD office.
Sunday 19th February |
9am Nightcliff Markets and Rapid Creek Markets Shuttle Bus
Nightcliff Markets always have great entertainment food and crafts. Rapid Creek is all about fresh produce, in
particular Asian inspired foods. The shuttle bus will run from 9am – 12 pm and leave from out side the IHD office.
Monday 20th February |
10am Official Welcome Red Room COMPULSARY!
This is our opportunity to officially welcome you to IHD this year. We will tell you everything you need to know about
living here, we will have representatives from the university tell you about the support services available, there will be
information on safety in Darwin and you will get the chance to meet the 2012 Resident Leaders and our friends the
Red Frogs! Session begins at 10am in the Red Room. See you all there!
12pm Committee Sign Up
Find out about what each committee is offering this semester and sign up to your favourite one! This is the best way
to meet new people and make lifelong friends.
1pm Afternoon Activites
Grab some new friends and get some sports gear out of the shed, some games or a DVD out of the office and spend
the afternoon however you want! Enjoy!

Tuesday 21st February |
9am iGrow Academic Development Red Room
Whether you are a new or returning student to university, there is a session for you to attend as part of our iGrow
Academic Development Program. There will be three different sessions covering Transition to Academic Life, Study
Skills and Becoming a Tutor. IHD employs tutors each semester to facilitate a study session each week during
semester, if you would like to become one you must attend these sessions. Get a head start!! Those who do attend
go in the running for a great prize!

One of the nicest places to have a meal in Darwin. Sit on the waters edge, watch the sun set, feed the fish and
enjoy a cheap meal from one of the many restaurants on the wharf. Just bring money for food. Bus will leave from
outside the IHD office at 6pm.
Wednesday 22nd February |
5:30pm Café Crawl REGISTER HERE
Last year the Red Frogs held their inaugural Café Crawl and it was certainly one of the highlights. This year, new
cafes and more sweet coffee and meal deals! Just bring money for food and drinks. Bus leaves from outside the
IHD office at 5:30pm.

IHD and the Red Frogs are putting on a trivia night for all IHD residents. Heaps of prizes to win! Head down to the
Red Room at 6pm and get a team together for a night of brain straining fun!
Friday 24th February |
9am iGrow Personal Wellbeing CDU GYM REGISTER HERE
Get the balance between study and fitness right with help from IHD and the CDU Gym. Meet at the Red Room for a
class run by CDU Sports, followed by a walk to the CDU Gyms, where you will learn about the facilities and healthy
living. Those who do attend go in the running to win one of three, 3 month CDU Gym memberships!
12pm Onwards - Out and About Afternoon
12pm Crocosaurus Cove $10 REGISTER HERE
Crocosaurus Cove allows visitors a unique, up close and personal view of Australia’s iconic Saltwater Crocodiles.
Bringing together some of the largest Saltwater Crocodiles in Australia & boasting the World’s largest display of
Australian reptiles, Crocosaurus Cove is a must see attraction when visiting Darwin and the Top End. Bus will leave
from outside the IHD office at 12pm.
1pm Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory FREE REGISTER HERE
The MAGNT collections encompass Aboriginal art and material culture, visual arts, craft, Southeast Asian and Oceanic
art and material culture, maritime archaeology, Northern Territory history and natural sciences. Not to be missed! Bus
will leave from outside the IHD office at 1pm.
2pm Darwin Waterfront Wavepool FREE REGISTER HERE
Escape the Heat! Darwin’s new Waterfront Precinct houses the Wave Lagoon! Just like swimming in the ocean
but without the need to worry about stingers or crocs. Awesome! Bus will leave from outside the IHD office at 2pm.

6pm O’Week Party!!!! Schuberts Uni Bar Theme: Beach Brightness!
Let your hair down before university goes back! IHD is hosting an O’Week party for all IHD residents at Shuberts Uni Bar
in the Red Precinct. Promotional giveaways, dancing, there’s too much fun too be had! Make sure you and all your IHD
friends get down there! Your tickets are in your Welcome Packs! O'Week prize winners announced on the night!
Guests of IHD residents must pay $5 at entrance. 18+ only.
