Standard room (shared external bathroom)
A standard room has a king-sized single bed, desk, chair, lamp, and wardrobe. All of the rooms have a small fridge. Communal, single gender bathrooms are shared with others who live in your area of the building. Bathrooms are cleaned and maintained daily.
Twin share room (shared external bathroom)
The twin share room is twice the size of a standard room. It contains the same inclusions as a standard room, but has two king-sized single beds that can be connected to make a king-sized bed. It is for two people to use this room and is per person per week in the standard tariff. The occupants of these rooms use the single gender communal bathrooms in their building which are shared with others who live in your area of the building. Bathrooms are cleaned and maintained daily.
Standard room (shared ensuite)
Similar to a standard room, these rooms are constructed in pairs with a central communal bathroom (shower and toilet) for the use of the occupants of the two adjoining rooms. It is the responsibility of the occupants to clean their own bathrooms; inspections are conducted regularly. Reservations staff ensure that rooms sharing ensuites are occupied by people of the same gender. These rooms are limited in number and are slightly more expensive than a standard room.
Twin share room (private ensuite)
This room type is the same as a twin share room but has its own personal shower, washing basin, and toilet. It is the responsibility of the occupants to clean their own bathrooms; inspections are conducted regularly.
Single story building
This building contains 5 standard rooms which share communal single gender bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, and lounge room. It is the responsibility of the occupants to clean their own communal areas (bathroom, kitchen, dining room, and lounge room); inspections are conducted regularly.
Apartment
These new buildings are due to open at the beginning of 2012. They are fully enclosed and contain standard and twin standard rooms, shared bathroom, kitchen, dining room, and lounge room with TV. It is the responsibility of the occupants to clean their own communal areas (bathroom, kitchen, dining room, and lounge room); inspections are conducted regularly.
All buildings have their own conveniently located kitchens, bathrooms and laundries.
Kitchens
Kitchens are equipped with stoves, microwaves and full-size freezers. Residents are responsible for preparing their own meals and share responsibility for the cleanliness of their kitchen.
Kitchens are not equipped with cooking utensils. Individual kitchen kits are available for purchase and hire from the IHD office if you do not have access to your own pots, pans and cooking utensils. A kitchen kit costs $150.00 for long term residents to purchase and for hire to short term residents (Less than 4 weeks) at a cost of $1.50 per day and a bond of $150.00.
Laundries
Laundries containing washing machines are available at no extra charge to residents. Dryers are coin operated and cost $3.00 per cycle. Residents are able to use these between the hours of 7am and 10pm (all laundries are locked at night and no access is granted after hours to retrieve laundry left in machines). Laundries also have irons and ironing boards for resident use.
Computer Facilities
IHD has a computer lab which is available to residents 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year and includes printing facilities. Access codes to the computer room are given to new residents upon arrival at IHD. In addition, IHD provides wireless internet access for residents from most areas of the residential complex.
All new residents need to contact the CDU Information Centre to obtain a student ID. This then enables the IT department to create a logon and password to access the computers. Contact ITMS after the student ID has been obtained.
