Frequently Asked Questions

Information regarding study assistance is available from Staff Professional Development Process and Guidelines (.pdf).

How long can I have worked at CDU to be eligible to receive reimbursements from this program?

You are entitled to study assistance if you are employed under the following:

Is this program only available for 2007?

The list of courses will change each year and changes can be seen on this website.

What happens in 2008?

Once you have been accepted and enrolled for 2007 into a Commonwealth Government supported place, you can continue with that course until completion.

How do I receive the payment?

You must pay the course fee up front and then seek reimbursement upon successful completion of each unit. Full reimbursement is available to full-time staff and part-time staff will receive a pro rata rate of reimbursement depending on work hours.

What happens if I move to another position at CDU or resign?

If you move to another position, so long as the course continues to align with your position description and the course remains within your same focus area (in line with your PDRS) then you will be able to claim the reimbursement even if you have changed your position within CDU.

If you were to resign from CDU, there will be a repayment obligation for up to two years post completion of your course units. For more information on this please view clause 3.1.6 Staff Professional Development Process and Guidelines (.pdf) or contact Staff Professional Development on 8946 6417.

Is the program available for casual staff?

The definition of staff in the CDU Union Collective Agreement 2006-2007 is any employee who is continuing, fixed-term, part-time or casual. You will still need to meet the eligibility criteria as outlined in the first question above.

What happens if I fail a unit?

There is no reimbursement available if you fail a unit.

What if I get a "show cause" or get excluded?

You will not be reimbursed unless you complete each unit successfully. See exclusion rules (.pdf).

What if I am interested in VET courses?

VTE Commonwealth Government supported courses are available now.

For any more information on these staff development opportunities, please call one of the Staff Professional Development Consultants on 8946 6417 or email Staff.PD@cdu.edu.au.
