VTE courses for 2008
Charles Darwin University staff may enrol in Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses that are Government Supported and receive full reimbursement after successful completion.

TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
If this course is a requirement of your position to meet AQTF standards and is approved by your manager, then Staff Professional Development will fund positions where this course is deemed necessary for you to perform your role. When completing the Application form - Vocational Education and Training (.pdf) please ensure the statement from your manager identifies this.
For all other staff who do not meet the above criteria and wish to enrol in this course, the normal Staff Study Reimbursement Scheme procedure applies. Staff will be required to pay up-front and will be reimbursed upon successful completion of each unit.
To enrol in the TAA40104 course please contact Rosalyn Walker prior to completing your Application form - VET (.pdf) and 2007 VET Enrolment form (.pdf) as you may be eligible for credit transfer if you are updating from BSZ40198.

Eligibility criteria
- Staff must be employed as a continuing appointment, or current fixed-term appointment of three or more years, or currently employed with CDU for the past three years with a likelihood of being offered further employment (view the Staff Professional Development Process and Guidelines (.pdf))
- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident in Australia, or New Zealand resident
- Selected course must align with your Performance Development Review goals and your Development Plan (PDRS form)
- Course must align with your current position description
- Must align with CDU Competency Framework (.pdf).
Checklist
- Gain approval from your area manager (discuss the application with your direct area manager prior to enrolling in course)
- Complete the following forms:
- 2007 VET Enrolment form (.pdf) - If you are seeking Recognition of Prior Learning from any units, please ensure to also complete a Request for Advanced Standing form (.pdf) and submit your request for RPL within six months of commencing the course
- Application form - Vocational Education and Training (.pdf)
- Study Time Release Form (.pdf) (if applicable)
- Forward all forms to the Staff Professional Development Consultant, Level 2, Building 29, Casuarina Campus.

How long can I have worked at CDU to be eligible to receive reimbursements from this program?
You are entitled to study assistance if you are employed under the following:
- Continuing appointment
- Current fixed-term appointments of three or more years
- Employment with CDU for the past three years with a likelihood of being offered further employment
- Staff must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or New Zealand resident.
Is this program only available for 2007?
The list of courses will change each year and changes can be viewed from this website.
What happens in 2008?
Once you have commenced the relevant VET course, you can continue with that course until completion.
How do I receive the payment?
You must pay the course fee by the relevant fees due date and then seek reimbursement upon successful completion of each unit. Full reimbursement is available to full-time staff and part-time staff will receive a pro rata rate of reimbursement depending on work hours.
What happens if I move to another position at CDU or resign?
- As long as the course continues to align with your position description and the course remains within your same focus area
(in line with your PDRS) then you will be able to claim the reimbursement even if you have changed your position within CDU - If you were to resign from CDU, there will be a repayment obligation for up to two years post completion of your course units. Is the program available for casual staff?
The definition of staff in the CDU Union Collective Agreement 2006-2007 is any employee who is continuing, fixed-term, part-time or casual. You will still need to meet the eligibility criteria as outlined in the first question above.
What happens if I fail a unit?
There is no reimbursement available if you fail a unit.
What if I do not participate in any enrolled units?
You will not be reimbursed unless you complete each unit successfully.
What if I am interested in Higher Education courses?
Higher Education Commonwealth Government Supported courses are available now.
