National Disability Coordination Officer - Northern Territory
National Disability Coordination Officers play a valuable role helping to increase the access and participation rates of students with a disability to post-secondary education, training and then onto employment. They perform a range of functions that are focused on the provision of practical assistance and support to people with a disability.
What is the NDCO program?
The NDCO program works towards the Australia-wide coordination and delivery of support services for people with a disability who are at, or will be attending, university, vocational education and training, or another training organisation.
The NDCO program’s goals are to:
- Improve transition for people with a disability from their school or community into post-secondary education, training and subsequent employment
- Increase participation by people with a disability in higher education, vocational education and training, and employment
- Establish better links between schools, universities, vocational education and training, training providers, and disability service providers so that they can work together to provide the best possible assistance for people with a disability.
What services does an NDCO provide?
- Information, coordination and referral activities for people with a disability
- Assist local education providers to provide better services for people with a disability
- Provide information to individuals with a disability
- Link individuals and organisations to local support services
- Raise awareness amongst education providers and the general public of the issues facing people with a disability.
