Supporting sound management of natural and cultural resources within northern and central Australia, and the Asian-Pacific region. Particular focus is given to:
- Landscape dynamics and biodiversity, including impacts of climate change and land use.
- Environmental disturbance and stress, including ecological and physiological responses, ecosystem health, microbial ecology and pollution.
- Building livelihoods and economies from natural resources, including sustainable development of alternative livelihoods within regional and Indigenous communities.
- Catchment processes, including water resources management, impacts on coasts and sustaining cultural values and healthy ecosystems.
- Institutions for natural and cultural resource management, including assessment and design.
- Innovative building design that is environmentally and culturally appropriate in desert and tropical communities
