06-Apr-2012 France-Australia Science Innovation Collaboration Program Early Career Fellowships 2012 The Australian Academy of Science invites applications from Australian early career researchers for the France-Australia Science Innovation Collaboration (FASIC) Program Early Career Fellowships in 2012. The FASIC program is a joint fund to support high calibre Australian and French early career researchers (ECRs) nominated by their institutions, to expand research and innovation activities and to initiate substantial research networks and linkages to support both countries’ research and innovation priorities.Candidates should be research active in the fields of (1) medical science and biotechnology; (2) energy, including clean energy; (3) sustainable infrastructure and transportation; and (4) climate change and environment in the areas of marine science, land and water management and fire management.
   
11-Apr-2012 Call for an Investigator Team for a Partnership Centre: Systems Perspectives on Preventing Lifestyle-Related Chronic Health Problems NHMRC, working with Australian National Preventive Health Agency, NSW Health, QLD Health and ACT Health announced that the second NHMRC Partnership Centre for Better Health will be established on the theme of ‘Systems Perspectives on Preventing Lifestyle-Related Chronic Health Problems’. The NHMRC and funding partners would like to invite cross-jurisdictional, multidisciplinary groupings of investigators to apply to be the team which compiles and performs the five year work plan for this Partnership Centre. 12-Apr-2012 Discovery Indigenous Funding Scheme This provides funding to Eligible Organisations to support research programs led by an Indigenous Australian researcher and build research capacity of higher degree research and early career researchers. ARC $30,000 to $300,000 per year.

27-Apr-2012 PRIME MINISTER’S PRIZE FOR SCIENCE The Prime Minister's Prize for Science is the nation's pre-eminent award for excellence in science. The prize is a tribute to the contributions that Australian scientists have made to Australia's and the world's economic and social wellbeing, and is awarded for an exceptional specific achievement in any area of science advancing human welfare or benefiting society. In this context, science encompasses the physical, chemical, biological and technological sciences, mathematics and engineering. There are no restrictions as to when the achievement was accomplished, however nominees (either single or collective) should be currently active in research.   $300,000
27-Apr-2012 2012 Diabetes Research Innovation Award The JDRF and the Macquarie Group Foundation are calling for applications for the 2012 Diabetes Research Innovation Awards. The Awards recognise an outstanding researcher in type 1 diabetes with the publication or patent demonstrating the highest innovation, impact and importance in the 2011 calendar year.

01-May-2012 Sylvia & Charles Viertel Charitable Foundation – Senior Medical Research Fellowships Applications are invited for a five-year Senior Medical Research Fellowship. Outstanding researchers who are medically qualified or graduates of another scientific discipline, with recognised postdoctoral achievements seeking to establish a research career in Australia and undertake research in an Australian academic institution, are eligible to apply whether they are currently working in Australia or not. Only Australian nationals or permanent residents are eligible for the awards. The Sylvia and Charles Viertel Charitable Foundation valued at $195,000 per annum.
03-May-2012 NHMRC Early Career Fellowships The purpose of NHMRC Early Career Fellowships is to provide opportunities for Australian researchers to undertake research that is both of major importance in its field and of benefit to Australian health. A major objective of the scheme is to foster career development at the postdoctoral level by encouraging the beneficial experience of a different research environment. Early Career Fellowships provide for advanced training in health and medical research either in Australia or overseas (where appropriate), to enable Fellows to work on research projects with nominated advisers. 31-May-2012 Australian Spinal Research Foundation Grants to support research initiatives Establishing research priorities supports the Foundation’s vision to contribute and resource research that expands our knowledge base for the overall health and well being of the community.

Priority 1: Fundamental Research
The Foundation is interested in supporting research that expands our knowledge and understanding of the vertebral subluxation complex and the chiropractic adjustment.

Priority 2: Clinical Research
The Foundation is interested in supporting clinically oriented studies that contribute to and expand our knowledge and understanding of the impact of chiropractic care on human physiology, the nervous system, global well being and quality of life.

They are awarded each year in two divisions – establishment and equipment. 31-May-2012 Ramaciotti Medal for Excellence in Biomedical Research This grant is awarded to a nominated person who has made an outstanding discovery (or discoveries) in clinical or experimental biomedical research that has had an important impact on biomedical science, clinical medicine, or the way in which healthcare is delivered. 06-Jun-2012 NHMRC Program Grants The aim of the Program Grants scheme is to provide support for teams of high calibre researchers to pursue broad based, multi-disciplinary and collaborative research activities. Teams will be expected to contribute to new knowledge at a leading international level in important areas of health and medical research. 11-Jul-2012 Development Grants from NHMRC Development Grant provides funding support to individual researchers, research teams, or a HMR company in partnership with a researcher/s to undertake research at the early proof-of-principle or pre-seed stage. The Scheme supports the commercial development of a product, process, procedure or service that if applied, would result in improved health care, disease prevention or provide health cost savings. Applications must demonstrate a basic understanding of the process and steps required to move from research to outcomes that can be commercialised, including: the process and steps to a market, the nature of the market; the milestones and risks of the venture; and an understanding of possible means of handling intellectual property connected with the project. 29-Jul-2012 Sellby Fellowship. - 2013 Honorific Awards Fellowships are awarded to distinguished overseas scientists to visit Australia for public lecture/seminar tours and to visit scientific centres in Australia. 30-Aug-2012 Overseas Travel Fellowships from ANN Two rounds of Five (5) Overseas Travel Fellowships valued at up to $5,000 each are offered every year (closing dates are the 28th of February and 30th of August.). Also offered for attending International Summer Schools (not conferences) of minimum one (1) week duration, or longer. Applications are ranked and Fellowships awarded to the top 5 ranked applications.
