Confirmation of Candidature

In order for your candidature to be confirmed you must:

submit a detailed Research Proposal
submit a Supervision Agreement
and, for students commencing in 2009 onwards, give an Oral Presentation to a group of disciplinary peers.

Due Dates:

Research Proposal and Supervision Agreement are due within four months of commencing for full-time students, or eight months for part-time students.
For Doctor of Philosophy, the Confirmation of Candidature must be completed within nine to twelve months of full-time study.
For Masters by Research and Research Professional Doctorate the Confirmation of Candidature must be completed within six months of full time study.

Research Proposals and Supervision Agreement

Detailed Research Proposals and Supervision Agreements are part of the Confirmation of Candidature process for new HDR candidates.

A new form-based approach for the detailed Research Proposals and Supervision Agreements has been developed as outlined below.

Research Proposal Cover Sheet

Candidates are required to use the new form HDR-13 Research Proposal Cover Sheet as the cover sheet for their detailed Research Proposal. The Cover Sheet includes information about the student, supervisors, FoR Code and thesis title. It also acts as a contents checklist, providing a list of sections that are required to be submitted as part of the Research Proposal. Additional sections may be added, if necessary. Notes about the various sections are provided on page 2 of the form. Handwritten proposals will not be accepted.

Supervision Agreement Form

For the Supervision Agreement, Candidates and Principal Supervisors are asked to use the new form HDR-14 Research Degree Supervision Agreement. This form contains a number of sections to be completed. There are a number of suggested clauses for inclusion listed on page 2 of the form.

Oral Presentation

HDR Candidates commencing from 2009 are also required to give an Oral Presentation as part of the Confirmation of Candidature process. The Oral Presentation is organised within the Faculty / IAS School.
