Research Interests

As a research Aassociate of both David Parry and Neils Munksgaard, Francoise has research interests focussing on the chemical and biological aspects of inorganic pollutants in the aquatic environmentsof northern Australia. These include:

  • Use of lead isotope ratios as tracers of anthropogenic lead in north Australian estuarine sediments
  • Assessment of bioavailability of heavy metals in north Australian estuarine sediments
  • Use of Rare Earth Elements (REE) as provenance indicators for north Australian coastal sediments
  • Distribution of heavy metals and arsenic in water, sediment and biota in northern Australia.
  • Methods for trace metal analysis and assessment of bioavailability in seawater.
  • The distribution of trace metals in estuarine and coastal seawater, sediment and biota.
  • Methods for low-level nutrient analysis in seawater.
  • Seagrasses as biomonitors of heavy metal pollution in the marine environment.
  • Mechanisms of dissolution and uptake of metals from metal sulfide ores in marine and freshwater environments.
  • Mechanisms of metal and sulfate removal from mine waters by sulfate reducing bacteria - implications for wetland filters.
  • Speciation of arsenic in soils and sediments.

Francoise is also a member of the Environmental Analytical Chemistry Unit.
