Current Projects

Indigenous First language Research and Consultation Model

This project builds on the success of the earlier Indigenous research into the experience of Yolngu 'longgrassers' in Darwin by two Yalu Marnggithinyaraw researchers Elaine Lawurrpa Maypilama and Joanne Garnggulkpuy (See http://learnline.cdu.edu.au/yolngustudies/docs/Longgrass_report.pdf). The Indigenous First language Research and Consultation Model project covers five other language groups:

  • Murrin Patha - Wadeye community and surrounding outstations
  • Tiwi - Tiwi Islands: Bathurst and Melville Islands
  • Burarra - Maningrida community
  • Anindiliyakwa - Groote Eylandt communities
  • Kriol - Aboriginal English from the Top End region
