Research Interests

My research interest is in Southeast Asian arts and culture with a particular focus on:

  • Cultural production through the performance of arts and craft activities in Southeast Asia
  • Democratisation and cultural revival in post colonial Southeast Asia

Current Projects

Chris’s current projects include:

  • Arts, Crafts and Cultural Production: an examination of the production, forms and functions of the arts and crafts of everyday life within the social and cultural space of a contemporary Thai/Lao village.
  • Making Thai: a re-exanimation of the role of state sponsored compulsory education in promoting Thai citizenship, through the national social studies curriculum, in a Lao speaking village in northeast Thailand.
