Research Scholarships

Australian Postgraduate Award (APA)

2012 APA mid-year round closes May 4, 2012. Successful applicants must commence by August 31, 2012 unless approved otherwise. Find out more and apply.

Australian Postgraduate Awards are prestigious scholarships funded by the Commonwealth Department of Innovation, Industry, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) and provide an indexed stipend - paid fortnightly - of $23,728 (2012 rate) per annum. Additional benefits include paid sick leave, maternity/paternity leave, relocation and a thesis allowance.

You must be an Australian citizen, or a permanent resident, to apply and have an Honours 1, or equivalent results.

Applications close May 4 for commencement no later than August 31 and October 31 each year for commencement the following year. Find out about the conditions of award.

Australian Postgraduate Award (APA - Industry)

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) scholarships may be available to undertake a Master by Research or Doctor of Philosophy at Charles Darwin University. They are funded by the Australian Research Council and also include industry linkages and support. These awards currently offer a stipend ($27,222) and additional benefits such as relocation and other allowances.

University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (UPRS)

These scholarships are offered by Charles Darwin University to postgraduate research students undertaking projects that fall within the University's research priority areas.

UPRS are open to Australian and overseas applicants and pay a fortnightly stipend valued at $23, 728 (2012 rate) per annum. Applicants must have received at least Honours IIA, or equivalent.

Additional benefits include paid annual leave, sick leave and maternity/paternity leave entitlements, relocation and thesis allowance. Overseas applicants must be able to cover their course tuition fees to apply.

International postgraduate research scholarships (IPRS)

2013 IPRS round closes 30 September 2012. Successful applicants must commence by 31st March 2013 unless approved otherwise.

These scholarships are funded by DEEWR and are available to outstanding overseas students.

Please note: Current high quality international research students may apply if they commenced their Higher Degree by Research in the previous year but, due to the timing of their applications and subsequent enrolment, were unable to apply for an IPRS for that year. For more details.

The bursaries cover tuition and health costs for two years for masters students and three years for PhD candidates. Dependents' health care costs are also covered. For more information visit here.

Domestic fee waiver

Domestic fee waiver scholarships cover course fees for domestic students and vary in value from course to course. To be eligible, you must be a domestic student and qualify for entry to a masters by research, or a PhD. Contact research.degrees@cdu.edu.au for details.

How do I apply for a Scholarship?

Note - COMPLETE applications must be received by the closing dates listed. INCOMPLETE applications will not be considered.

 

Closing dates for Scholarship Applications

The closing date for domestic scholarships applications is October 31 in any given year and for international scholarships is 30 September in any given year.

If you are successful, you are expected to start no later than March 31 in the year for which your award is granted. Special circumstances may allow you to start later - up to June 30.

If a mid-year round is called, applications will be due in May and students must commence by August 31 that year.

Applications for fee waivers must be received by February 28 for a semester 1 start and by July 31 for a semester 2 start.
