Commonwealth Scholarships (CS)

The objectives of the Commonwealth Scholarships (CS) program is to facilitate choice in higher education and to increase higher education participation by students from lower socio-economic backgrounds, particularly Indigenous students and students from regional and remote areas.

There are three types of Commonwealth Scholarships:

 

Commonwealth Education Cost Scholarship (CECS) Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship (CAS) Indigenous Access Scholarship (IAS)

Amount (per annum)

$2,162 $4,324 $4,080

Categories

CECS

  • for students undertaking an undergraduate course or graduate diploma in an area of National Priority
  • awarded for a maximum period of four years

CECS Associate Degree

  • for students undertaking an associate degree
  • awarded for a maximum period of two years

CECS Indigenous Enabling

  • for Indigenous students undertaking a tertiary enabling program
  • awarded for a maximum period of one year

CAS

  • for students undertaking an undergraduate course or graduate diploma in an area of National Priority
  • awarded for a maximum period of four years

CAS Associate Degree

  • for students undertaking an associate degree
  • awarded for a maximum period of two years

CAS Indigenous Enabling

  • for Indigenous students undertaking a tertiary enabling program
  • awarded for a maximum period of one year

IAS

  • for Indigenous students undertaking a tertiary enabling program or undergraduate course
  • awarded as a one off payment
