Who can apply for a scholarship?
Anyone can apply for a scholarship as long as they meet the eligibility requirements. Each scholarship on our website has an information sheet and you should read this first to see if you match the criteria.
Can I apply for more than one scholarship?
Yes, you can apply for as many scholarships as you like. We encourage you to apply for all of the scholarships you are eligible for. If one of the scholarships you are eligible for says you can only have that scholarship you can still apply for others but when it comes to accepting them you will need to choose which one to take.
How do I apply for scholarships?
Read the information sheets available for each scholarship and check that you meet the eligibility requirements. Download the relevant application form and guidelines. Complete you application including all supporting documentation that is required and submit to the Scholarships Officer at the Information Centre, Orange Building 1, Casuarina campus, E: scholarships@cdu.edu.au or F: 08 8946 6642.
What is the closing date for scholarships?
All closing dates for scholarships are published on the Scholarships website and on the information sheets for the individual scholarship. Late applications can not be accepted.
Will I be notified that my application has been received?
Yes. An acknowledgement email will be sent within seven working days of your application being received by the Scholarships Officer. Please contact the Scholarships Officer if you do not receive an acknowledgement email.
When will I be notified of the outcome of my application?
Once the applications have been assessed and the outcomes are known to the Scholarships Officer, all applicants are notified in writing.
How are scholarships awarded?
Each scholarship has its own eligibility criteria. Applicants must address the criteria in their application and provide any supporting documentation requested on the application form. The applicant who best meets this eligibility criteria and who is approved by the Scholarship Selection Committee is offered the scholarship(s).
Selection criterion can include; academic merit, Grade Point Average (GPA) or Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR), equity criteria (financial hardship, sole parent/carer, non-English speaking background, medical condition/disability, Indigenous, etc), location (rural or isolated), personal attributes, performance at interview or a combination of selection criteria.
Can I be awarded more than one scholarship?
Some scholarships do not allow the recipient to be in receipt of any other scholarships. Where someone is awarded more than one scholarship and the criterion for one or more of the scholarships states that you cannot be in receipt of another scholarship, it is up to the recipient to decide which scholarship they would like to accept.
Applicants can only receive a maximum of two scholarships concurrently offered through CDU unless stated otherwise.
What happens if I am awarded a scholarship?
You will receive notification via email and in the mail. An official offer letter, along with the conditions of the scholarship and a scholarship protocol will be sent to you. Once you have viewed the scholarship conditions and if you agree to them, you must complete and return the protocol to the Scholarships Officer by the date indicated in your offer letter. If the protocol is not received by the due date, it may be assumed that you do not wish to accept the scholarship and it will be offered to another candidate.
When and how do I receive payment for my scholarship?
Scholarship payments are made within 30 days of the relevant semester census date (Semester 1 - 31 March, Semester 2 - 31 August) once enrolment requirements are confirmed. Payment is made in the form of an electronic funds transfer (EFT) directly deposited into a nominated account.
Is there an official scholarships presentation?
The scholarship presentation ceremony for Semester 1 is normally held in May of each year. The scholarship presentation ceremony for Semester 2 is normally held in October of each year. These ceremonies are not for all scholarships. Those eligible recipients will receive an invitation and will have the opportunity to meet the donors of their scholarship. All recipients are awarded an official scholarship certificate.
Can I defer my scholarship offer?
No. Scholarship offers at Charles Darwin University cannot be deferred.
What will happen if I change my enrolment details during the scholarship period?
You must contact the Scholarships Officer in this instance.
How can I spend the scholarship money?
Scholarships are intended to assist students with costs relating to study and some scholarships stipulate how the funds are to be used, i.e. an account at the Uni Bookshop; or payment of fees. Some recipients from rural or regional areas use the funds provided for travel to attend classroom teaching blocks or practical components of their course.
Can I apply for another scholarship if I transfer my course of study?
If you are approved to undertake a course transfer within Charles Darwin University you will need to contact the Scholarships Officer to advise that you have changed your course. The Scholarship officer will then advise you on how this affects your eligibility.
Will receiving a scholarship affect my Centrelink benefits and/or taxable income for the year?
It is the student's responsibility to seek advice from the relevant government department or their financial advisor in regards to their own personal circumstances.
The ATO has a Scholarship Decision Tool which is designed to assist you in deciding if you non-government scholarship is taxable.

You will be contacted directly by the relevant donor contact to arrange your work experience in the semester breaks. If you are unsure, contact the Scholarships Officer.
