Northern Territory students
Staying in the Territory and studying at CDU offers many benefits for NT students like you. Just some of these include:
- A personalised approach to education
- Take advantage of competitive entry requirements
- You can apply for scholarships
- Special entry allowances for uni degrees
- CDU offers alternative pathways
- Stay close to friends and family
A personalised approach to education
CDU is distinctive in its ability to offer smaller class sizes and a low student-to-teacher ratio – about one teacher to every 15-20 students. This means you get more personalised attention to your education and learning.
Take advantage of competitive entry requirements
Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) cut-offs are simply based on supply and demand and as CDU is a regional university there are relatively more places available than at universities in highly populated cities.
We also have competitive offerings, with our Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science degrees ranked among the top six in Australia out of 39 universities (source: 2006 Good Universities Guide). We were also ranked best in Australia, with one other university, for degrees in accounting, humanities and social sciences and our Bachelor of Business students all found a job within three to six months of graduating (source: 2006 Good Universities Guide).
You can apply for scholarships
You don’t have to have climbed Mt Everest or be the first person to find a cure for cancer to be considered for scholarships. CDU has a number of scholarships available specifically for NT students that are awarded for a number of different achievements and all are judged relative to other applicants. You might be eligible for one of these scholarships, including the Vice-Chancellor’s Prize of a $6000 lump sum, or a scholarship offer from the Faculty of Law, Business and Arts and the Faculty of Education, Health and Science of $6000 in year one and $5000 for subsequent years of study. You will be automatically considered for these prizes if you achieve a ATAR score of 90 or over.
Plus, there are Commonwealth learning and accommodation scholarships available. These could be just the solution if your financial situation would make it difficult for you to afford to go to university. You can apply for these through the SATAC website.
There are a wide range of scholarships available for NT students. Find out more >>
Special entry allowances for uni degrees
If you achieve a ATAR of 80 or over, you are guaranteed a place in your chosen course at CDU (except for Pharmacy and Engineering Co-op).
As an NT school leaver, you will automatically be given bonus points on top of your aggregate ATAR score when you apply to study at CDU to help you in the ranking process.
CDU offers alternative pathways
CDU is a dual sector university, which means we are able to provide an easy transition for our students from VET studies into higher education studies. Often you receive credit for the study previously undertaken in VET when you articulate into a university degree in a similar field. This will also save you money.
Stay close to friends and family
If you are able to stay home while studying at CDU, it will be cheaper and any help you get with meals, laundry and housework, means more time for you to concentrate on your studies. Plus, remaining close to friends and family will ease the anxiety often associated with being in a new environment; in this case university.
