What kind of pet suits you? Are you a dog person, maybe a cat person ? Or maybe a turtle kind of person? Would you fancy caring for a nice billabong fish? Well it seems if you pick yourself up a more unusual variety of pet from Darwin you are quite possibly purchasing a product of Arnhem land.
The Djelk rangers of Maningrida work hard to share the beautiful creatures of their country with the homes of the rest of the territory and while mostly it's turtle hatchlings, they are also working to develop a saltwater goanna breeding program and at the end of the Dry they catch the colourful, long tailed, billabong fish stranded in the drying waterholes and sell those to pet shops too.
