Research interests

Cindy’s background is in Conservation Ecology. She did a Research Master’s degree in Ecology with a strong interest in biodiversity patterns of coral reef fish.

She had the opportunity to do field work with local fishermen in East Timor where she realized that working with local people was something missing in the research she had done before, and she strongly believes that engaging local communities in research and decision making is very important for good natural resource management.

The School for Environmental Research offered her a Research Associate position working in a field which combines Social and Ecological Sciences. She has since been working on different projects using participatory research methods, like scenario planning and modelling, with a wide range of stakeholders (politicians, scientists, Indigenous people, cattlemen…).
