Have you always wanted to see Gouldian Finches and other Australian tropical birds in the wild? Now is the time to do it - with the unique Discovering Tropical Birds program at Charles Darwin University.
The Top End is a birdwatcher's paradise, boasting almost half of the bird species found in Australia and many that occur only in the tropics. And the best time to see them is October. Magpie Geese and other waterbirds congregate in their thousands on shrinking billabongs as they wait for the first rains of the wet season to fall. You can see several species of finches found only in the tropical savannas, including the Gouldian Finch, widely acclaimed as the most colourful bird in the world.
Our six day program combines study and travel to provide bird enthusiasts the opportunity to experience and learn more about birds and other wildlife of the monsoon tropics. A two day package (Days one and two) is also available, comprising the theory component and excursions around Darwin.
