The Top End has a monsoon-tropical climate, with a long 6-month dry season (May-October) during which rain is extremely rare. The wet season typically begins in November, and the average annual rainfall over the next 6 months is an impressive 1500 millimetres! The period from September through November is known as the “build up”, when you can expect maximum temperatures around 33°C and high relative humidity (50-70%).
We recommend you pack light weight, wide brimmed hat or cap, water bottle, sunscreen and insect repellent, as well as toiletries, swimwear and towel, and a camera. Short rubber (wading) boots are also strongly recommended for the trips to the mangroves, but can also be purchased in Darwin.
Health and Insurance
Comprehensive travel and health insurance is recommended and a reasonable level of fitness is required. A staff member trained in First Aid will also be on the field trip.
