Richard Noske(BSc Hons, PhD, Grad Dip Ed) has been watching birds since he was 10 years old. He completed his PhD at the University of New England in northern NSW, after a detailed study of the ecology and sociality of treecreepers and sittellas. This work was rewarded in 2007 by an invitation to contribute two chapters to the widely acclaimed Handbook of the Birds of the World, the most authoritative text yet on all bird species.
Richard has written or co-written about 75 publications, including Birds of Groote Eylandt, the first monograph detailing the ecology of the avifauna and the ornithological history for any region in the Australian monsoon tropics. His interests in tropical birds led him first to Malaysia, then neighbouring Indonesia, where he co-founded the Indonesian Ornithological Union and is Chief Editor of its journal Kukila.
Richard’s knowledge of the Top End fauna and flora is broad, having been over 20 years in Darwin, and conducted or supervised many studies on local wildlife. His major research interests include breeding seasonality, brood parasitism, cooperative breeding, and nature conservation, especially in South-east Asia and New Guinea..
