2009 Australian University Games
Tuesday 20th October
2009 saw Charles Darwin University Sport send away 32 students to compete at the Australian University Games on the Gold Coast. This year the event attracted over 7000 students representing 44 Universities from across Australia and New Zealand . For many of our students it was their first experience representing their University and the Northern Territory, each of them doing themselves and CDU proud.
Our team consisted of representatives for Netball, Touch Football, Judo, Beach Volleyball, Table Tennis and Athletics with our Judo team bringing home silver and bronze medals. Although our other teams weren’t lucky enough to bring home medals, the dedication and persistence the teams displayed throughout the week whilst matched against tougher more experienced opponents was very moving.
Of the 41 Australian Universities represented at the Games, Charles Darwin University ranked 29th per capita! Considering some Universities sent up to 500 students, we are very proud of our achievement and are already looking above and beyond to Perth in 2010.
