Indigenous Gambling Scoping Study - A Summary
A summary of an original draft report by Heather McDonald and Bernadette Wombo abstracted and edited by Mary Morris, Martin Young, Tony Barnes, Jeanne Marum and Matthew Stevens.
Learning Lessons
This project identified a widespread failure to confer literacy and numeracy skills to Indigenous students across the Northern Territory system at large. Since Learning Lessons was submitted in 1999, the Northern Territory Government has made a concerted effort to eliminate the achievement gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students in Territory schools.
It was this publication and its co-author Associate Professor Tess Lea that instigated the School for Social and Policy Research facilitating the National Accelerated Literacy Program in conjunction with the Northern Territory Department of Education and the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training.
The Sustainability of Chronic Diseases Management: A Follow-up Study of Renal Treatment Program Outcomes on the Tiwi Islands
This project was funded jointly by CRCATH and the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and has been conducted at CNAAR, in collaboration with researchers at MSHR and CRCATH. It is a study of the transfer of a research intervention to fight renal disease in community health centres in remote communities. It has important implications for the further development of the preventable chronic disease strategy in the Northern Territory.

Evaluation of the Aboriginal Mental Health Worker Program of the Top End Division of General Practice
This project examines the improvement of mental health services in remote communities through evaluation of a program managed by the Top End Division of General Practice. The program funds the employment of Aboriginal mental health workers, who work with general practitioners to improve mental health services to Indigenous community members.
The baseline investigation was conducted at Charles Darwin University by Centre for North Australian and Asian Research (CNAAR) in collaboration with the Centre for Indigenous Natural and Cultural Research Management (CINCRM). The current phase of the evaluation will be completed at the School for Social and Policy Research. The interim evaluation report will be available from February 2004.
