Curriculum Vitae

Biography

After completing my Honours degree in Psychology I worked for a brief time as a health policy researcher. This work cemented my interest in social science research and my desire for further training. I returned to higher education to pursue a PhD in Educational Research. During this time, I worked as the Assistant Director of the Research and Development Centre for the Advancement of Student Learning, designing and leading educational research and evaluation projects.

My work spans both sides of the “methodological divide,” from quantitative meta-analyses of What Works for Youth with Disabilities in Transition to my dissertation, a post-structural narrative study of the production and performance of masculinity in higher education.

The methods I use are varied, but my research interests focus on questions of social justice, power and politics in schooling. My current work at SSPR examines ethnic and economic segregation in systems of school choice, interventions and causes of the gender gap in academic achievement, post primary outcomes for indigenous Australians in the Central Desert and how the practices and politics of academia are productive of gendered subjects.

I began working at SSPR in January 2008 and am honoured to work in the Northern Territory, as part of a methodologically rigorous research centre focused on improving the education and welfare of Indigenous Australians.
