This aspect of the regional development theme was initiated in November and is still in a formative stage. It is expected to develop and expand over 2008. Currently, intended projects include:
The political economy of northern and central Australia: A book is being produced, titled The other Australia: a political economy of northern and central Australia.
Creating a sustainable Aboriginal economy: This work will concentrate on developing Aboriginal engagement with environmental and conservation services.
Re-casting service delivery in remote Australia: The first project under this program is to design a market-based instruments approach to biodiversity conservation on pastoral leases.
