Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship

Westpac is providing this scholarship to strengthen Australia’s pool of local talent and build a cohort of technology-literate future leaders.

Payment: $2,500 per semester

Duration: Ten (10) semesters

Other benefits:

Attendance at Westpac Young Technologists Summit in Sydney in April 2018.  Travel and accommodation expenses will be paid by Westpac.

Eligibility criteria:
  • Must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Information Technology, the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries/Bachelor of Information Technology, the Bachelor of Software Engineering Honours or the Bachelor of Computer Science.
  • Must be a new student into the course of study
  • Must be 26 years of age or under on commencement of the course
  • Must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa

How to apply (includes Selection Criteria)

You can apply for all scholarships where you meet the eligibility criteria. You may be awarded a maximum of two scholarships. Each scholarship needs a separate online application.

Selection criteria

Your online application will require you to complete a written statement which will include addressing each of the following selection criteria.  Answers to these criteria help the scholarship assessment panel choose the successful recipient.

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrate an appropriate academic record
  • Demonstrate passion, ability and initiative in your approach to study
  • Demonstrate a willingness to become an ambassador for the Westpac Scholars program through attending events and promoting the scholarship for the duration of their course and for at least 12 months after graduation.
  • Provide a LinkedIn account name in the supporting statement to allow networking with Westpac
  • Acknowledge that involvement as an ambassador for Westpac and engaging as an Alumni of the scholarship program will form part of the ongoing requirements of this scholarship
  • Demonstrate an interest in enhancing Australia's future technology landscape
  • Demonstrate a focus on personal growth and development and diverse skills and experience

Desirable criteria

  • Students who can demonstrate financial or other area of need/disadvantage are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Students who have completed the entry requirements of the course in the last two years

Supporting documents

You can upload documents to support your application (in one file not exceeding 2MB).

Past and present CDU students do not need to upload academic transcripts. All other applicants are strongly advised to submit proof of previous academic performance (from high school or other universities) to support your application.

After submitting your application

You will immediately receive an automatic reply acknowledging receipt of your application. Within 2-3 days you will receive a confirmation email from the scholarships office. If you are required to submit further documentation you will be advised in this email.

Assessment of applications

Your application will be assessed by a panel. If your application includes a work placement you may be required to attend an interview with the workplace employer.

Assessments are usually completed by the end of March for semester 1 and the end of August for semester 2.

Notification to applicants

All applicants will receive email notification regarding the success of their application.
