What do all these University terms mean?
The Glossary provides explanations about many of the university terms.
How do I apply for leave of absence or deferral?
Students who receive an offer for a place in semester 1 may choose to postpone starting the course (defer) for up to 12 months.
If you would like to defer your study for 12 months i.e. keep your place until the following year, you should notify SATAC. Information on how to do this is on the SATAC website.
If you would like to defer your study for six months i.e. keep your place until semester 2, you should contact the Information Centre to determine if your course allows mid-year entry. If it does then you must accept your offer with SATAC and enrol in semester 2, by following the recommended study plan before 31 March.
If you are a continuing student and have completed at least one unit, you will need to apply for an HE104 Leave of Absence.
I have forgotten my student number, who do I contact?
Contact the Information Centre.
Is there accommodation available on campus?
North Flinders International House is the on-campus accommodation at Casuarina campus. Contact them on 08 8946 6591 or email accommodation@cdu.edu.au.
Each faculty has an Academic Liaison Unit or ALU which assists course coordinators and students with specific course information and liaises with Student Services on matters of student administration.
What type of information do I need to prove to Centrelink that I am enrolled?
Centrelink and the University have an agreement that your Enrolment and Fees Advice is sufficient as proof of enrolment.
I want to apply for a scholarship, what evidence do I need to provide?
The evidence required depends on the scholarship or scholarships you are applying for. Each scholarship specifies the evidence required and there are guidelines to help you complete the application. For more information visit the Scholarship website.
What is the difference between full-time and part-time?
To be considered full-time a higher education student must be enrolled in a minimum of 30 credit points in a semester; this equates to 75 per cent of the normal full-time program of study. Vocational and technical education students must be enrolled in a minimum of 270 hours per semester, or 540 hours per annum.
Will the University advise Centrelink if my enrolment changes?
Charles Darwin University does not accept responsibility for students meeting Centrelink requirements. It is the student’s responsibility to inform Centrelink of any changes to their enrolment.
Once you are enrolled you are entitled to a student card which may be obtained at the Information Centre located on the ground floor, Orange 1, Casuarina campus, at the Cashier, Building A, Palmerston campus, or from the Information Centre on Alice Springs campus. External students should complete a GEN103 Student Card for External Students.
I have lost my student card, how do I get a replacement card?
If you have lost your student card, please contact the Information Centre. Student cards are issued to students free of charge. There is a $15 administration fee to replace a lost card. Stolen cards can be replaced free of charge when application is accompanied by a police incident number.
Am I insured whilst studying a course?
All students are covered by the University insurance policy whilst studying on campus and when undertaking approved university business off campus. If you are unsure if your particular activity is covered, please contact your course coordinator.
How do I enrol into an apprenticeship?
You cannot just enrol into a course to become an apprentice, here are some Useful steps to become an apprentice (.pdf, 56KB).
