Outcome of Student Evaluation of Units
As of second semester 2004, Charles Darwin University began a new system of mandatory student evaluation of units and modules using the Student Experience of Learning and Teaching (SELT) system with a sample of the units on offer in a semester being selected for the evaluation exercise.
Aggregated data on the outcomes of evaluations are presented for Higher Education (HE) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) units below.
Data on individual units is provided below for higher education units:
- Faculty of Education, Health and Science
- Faculty of Law, Business and Arts
- Institute of Advanced Studies
- LearnLink
- VET Industry Divisions
Interpreting the results
Aggregated data
These reports provide aggregated SELT response for units in the following categories:
- HE internal (unit delivered in internal mode) with results for each of the standard unit Likert questions
- HE external print (unit delivered via external print material) with results for each of the standard unit Likert questions
- HE learnline (unit supported by learnline learning management system) with results for each of the standard unit Likert questions
- VET internal (unit delivered in internal mode) with results for each of the standard unit Likert questions
- VET external print (unit delivered via external print material) with results for each of standard unit Likert questions
- The Likert response score is the marked student response to the survey question asked. A valid response is within the Likert scale of 1 (Strongly disagree) to 7 (Strongly agree) unless otherwise stated on the question itself.
Reports provide a definition of parameters and provides a visual representation of results with a black vertical bar representing the mean score and a black horizontal bar the standard deviation from the mean.
Individual unit data
For each unit quantitative data is provided on the Likert response to each of the standard unit questions including the mean and median response, standard deviation, number of valid responses and percentage broad agreement. Data on the response distribution is presented in terms of count and percentage as well as in the form of a graphical representation.
A summary of student commendations of the strengths of the learning experience in the unit together with a summary of student recommendations for improving learning are given along with a response to the overall unit evaluation from the academic School with responsibility for unit delivery.
