About TLDG

Education Development Unit (EDU)

EDU provides educational design expertise for flexible and online learning, advises staff on innovative teaching and learning strategies, promotes best practice initiatives and manages projects aimed at improving the student learning experience at CDU.

The team works closely with WAMM, RP and the flexible learning co-ordinator within TLDG and provides a strong link to not only academic staff across the organisation, but also the many academic support organisations such as AQPVET,  ITMS, the Library, access and equity and community engagement to ensure that it is responsive to the needs and strategic directions of CDU. EDU also visits campuses outside of the Darwin region and is continually reviewing strategies for supporting the more remote regions of the Northern Territory. Currently the ranges of tasks conducted by EDU include:

  • Course renewal - includes innovative teaching and assessment strategies, new training package implementation, sequencing generic skills and integrating graduate outcomes, advising on appropriate technology choice and purposeful use to develop effective learning environments, etc.
  • Professional Development Program of approximately 40 workshops, seminars and fora annually – many are conducted every year (e.g. TT@CDU and Intro to Learnline), while others are customized to VET PD days, course renewal work, visiting scholars and current ‘hot topics’. Workshops etc are conducted at different campuses and video-conferenced to other campuses and centres where possible
  • Student Experience project program including literature review and reporting, support of academics in the development and implementation of their projects including application development, survey development, liaison with relevant administrative units (e.g., Corporate Communications, Student Services, Library etc.), support for project reference group, development of a suite of resources to support external students in their transition to tertiary education, submission of relevant grant applications, writing reports and publishing articles on outcomes
  • School/Division liaison in which each EDU staff member attends T&L planning days, staff meetings, course advisory groups and other meetings
  • Review of CARP stage 1 and 2 documents, development of support materials to assist staff in preparing for CARP, support of staff developing documentation for all course and unit accreditations
  • Policy development and advice: for example, learning technologies group, flexible learning policy, advice for digital delivery and production
  • National and international representation through the Australian Council of Online and Distance Education, assessors for Carrick citations, collaborators on funded projects
  • Pedagogic research support through the development of grant application in both HE and VET.

EDU Representation at School and Division

EDU has a higher education school or VET division liaison person who is able to provide advice on teaching and learning issues specific for the school or division. We also work closely with the Teaching and Learning Champions for each school and division.
