Strategic Development

Course Renewal

As part of the Charles Darwin University’s strategic plan, teaching and learning are an important focus for the University.  Commitment to learner-centred approaches and improving student satisfaction as well as improving student retention and progression are key elements.

Since 2006, the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Teaching and Learning has annually identified a cluster of higher education programs undergoing course accreditation and reaccreditation for Course Renewal.  The schools that are undergoing course renewal are allocated TLDG resources to support them in the design, development and redevelopment of their curricula. The support provides academic staff developing curriculum with provisional resources and tools to design programs that enhance teaching and learning through the renewal and revitalisation of courses.  This includes building:

In 2007 courses undergoing course renewal included the:

  • Creative Arts and Industry programs
  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • Bachelor of Accounting
  • Bachelor of Laws
  • Bachelor of Teaching and Learning
  • Common Units.

In 2008 we are continuing with ongoing work on several of the courses listed above as well as the:

  • Tertiary Enabling Programs
  • Bachelor of Behavioural Science.

In addition we are also expanding our work to provide assistance for the implementation of newly accredited VET training packages.

Course renewal is a collaborative process aimed at providing opportunity to review, make current, and engage academics positively with curricula development. It allows us to continuously focus on enhancing the positive experience of learners by designing programs that challenge, motivate and skill students in their chosen disciplines.
