About us
Travel Gateway is a simulated business located at the Palmerston campus of the Charles Darwin University. It was established in 2004 with the aim of providing students undertaking competencies in Business Administration and Hospitality and Tourism with relevant experience in a near 'real' work environment.
The concept of Travel Gateway is modelled on that of our business partner and sponsor, Northern Gateway. Whilst participating in the courses offered through the simulated business students develop and practice business skills, gain knowledge and an understanding of the tourism industry as well as take on the responsibilities associated with the real world of work.
The training students receive in Travel Gateway is competency based and designed to suit the diverse learning needs of Territory students. Flexible learning is a feature of the courses with many of the units supported by online delivery. Students have an opportunity to engage in online learning, face to face teaching as well as experience the simulated office environment. Work-place assessment is also available for those who prefer on-the-job training. The courses have a practical 'hands-on' emphasis, which provides students with the opportunity to gain new skills, consolidate existing knowledge and experience, as well as participate in an exciting and stimulating learning environment.
