VET MATTERS

Dear Colleagues,

There is much to celebrate in this edition of VET Matters!

The significant achievements of CDU VET, the work of our staff across Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs campuses and our regional and remote locations, and the success of our students, have all been recognised with a range of government, business and industry awards for excellence in vocational education and skills training.

Our CDU NT Award winners are now in the running for national recognition at the Australian Training Awards in Canberra this November.

There was well deserved recognition for our Katherine team at this year’s Katherine Chamber of Commerce Awards.  Vicki Williams, Campus Administrator represented CDU and accepted the Customer Service Excellence Award in the non Government Business category for outstanding commitment to serving the Katherine community.

Team members Chrissy Zelley Children’s Services and Tammy Healey Business Studies were nominees in the Most Outstanding Individual category.  The Katherine Community Services Remote Team – Terry Ellem, Natalie Ellis and Michael Bolton were also recognised at the Awards event.

The twenty year contribution of our Director Central Australia to tertiary education leadership was celebrated at the 2017 AUSTAFE conference held in Brisbane in October.  Lyle Mellors was honoured with life membership of the national VET organisation in recognition of his leadership and professionalism across the sector.

And Alice Springs based Tourism and Hospitality Commercial Cookery Lecturer Ingolf Eigenwillig was inducted into the AUSTAFE Hall of Fame receiving the ‘Legends’ award in recognition of 30 years of excellent service to vocational education and training in the NT.

Collectively, these wins reinforce our position as the NT’s major education and training partner with our students, community, industry and government and celebrate our many excellent staff and student achievements!

Best wishes to all our NT Award winners as we now head to Canberra for the Australian Training Awards Finals on 23 November.
