Health

The Northern Territory has an excellent health system - public hospitals are located in Darwin, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine and Nhulunbuy (Gove) and Darwin also has a private hospital. Specialist services are available at the public Royal Darwin Hospital, and community health centres and aerial medical services provide assistance in more remote regions.

Education

The Northern Territory is home to an extensive public school system, with preschool through to tertiary education services provided in all urban - and many remote - areas. External study is a popular option for tertiary students in remote areas.

Teacher-student ratios are amongst the lowest in the country and a well-established private school system provides parents with a range of education options.

Shopping

Darwin's main shopping districts are in the city centre, Casuarina shopping centre and Palmerston. Casuarina has a range of supermarkets and speciality shops as well as a medical centre, banks and a movie theatre. Several highly-regarded Indigenous art galleries may be found in the city.

The main shopping strip in Alice Springs is the Todd Mall. As well as being Alice's retail heart, the Mall also has cafes, tourist agents, speciality shops and a supermarket. The Alice Springs Shopping Centre, with 20 speciality shops, is situated on the corner of Gregory and Bath streets.
