Economic Implications of Indian Diaspora Conference

Cultures of communities living outside of their home lands are on the rise and creating a diversity of human settlements of an unprecedented nature. The cultural diversity that one sees in the West and the tensions that it creates at the individual, national, regional and global levels needs specific attention by scholars and researchers. The time is right for a concerted attempt to understand and manage the diversity of the diasporas.

Some of the fundamental questions to be addressed in the Economic Implications of Indian Diaspora Conference include, How are the diasporas different? What role do home and host cultures play in developing relationships in diasporas studies in global environment? Are education and health policies geared towards addressing issues related to diasporas? What type of policies are needed that address issues related to efficiency and effectiveness?

Conference topics

Selected scholars from India and Australia will discuss the following:

  • Migration and diaspora
  • Challenges of ageing populations
  • Home relationships
  • People, places, products, prices, processes
  • Organisational changes

The conference will also serve the purpose of a meeting ground for interested parties on the subject of economic implications of Indian diaspora for planning future collaborations between CDU and other Indian universities.

Related events

As Darwin celebrates India@Mindil every year on the first saturday of the school holidays in June, the inaugural conference will also provide an opportunity to discuss prospects for an annual or bi-annual meeting of scholars. Involvement of the Australia-India council, Indian cultural society of the Northern Territory and other Indian universities will also be discussed.
