The site visit include tours of the following divisions:

Entomology - Students will see the insect collection, plus some of the damage termites can do. They will be told about the division's research in PNG eradicating the giant termite from Lae, which was most likely transferred to PNG from Australia during the second world war. Students will be introduced to the concept of IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and the work being done to reduce insecticide use in the Territory.

Plant Pathology - Students will examine symptoms of various plant diseases. They will be able to view fungi, bacteria and nematodes under the microscope and learn about the biggest organism in the world (which is a plant fungal disease). They will see a mock DNA extraction from a fungus.

Veterinary Laboratory - Students will tour a working veterinary diagnostic laboratory, where investigations are carried out into bacteria, parasites and other microbes. They will also see the post-mortem room.

Day 2 and Day 3 - Seminar: Man eating sharks
The first talk is an overview of research on the ecology of whale sharks with a focus on the aggregation of sharks at Ningaloo Reef ,Western Australia. The second talk looks at new techniques to census and describes the ecology of reef sharks and the role of traditional Indonesian fishing in the demise of shark stocks in northern Australian waters.
